MMG Insurance has committed to the purchase of a new dialysis machine for the Northern Light Dialysis Center in Presque Isle, reinforcing the company’s dedication to supporting access to critical healthcare services for Aroostook County.
The Northern Light Dialysis Center in Presque Isle is the only dialysis facility north of Lincoln, Maine, serving patients from northern Penobscot County through all of Aroostook County. Each year, the center provides more than 6,500 lifesaving dialysis treatments to nearly 100 patients. Many of these individuals travel long distances—often ninety minutes or more, three times each week, in all kinds of weather—to receive this lifesaving care.
Without this vital service, patients would be forced to travel to Bangor, a journey exceeding three hours one way for many residents, an option that would be impractical or impossible for large portions of The County. The dialysis center in Presque Isle allows patients to remain close to home, surrounded by family, community support, and trusted healthcare professionals.
MMG Insurance’s commitment comes at a critical time. The dialysis center’s existing machines are nearing the end of their useful life. To sustain operations and continue providing high-quality care, the center is seeking funding to replace 18 dialysis machines, each with an approximate cost of $15,000.
“Access to dependable healthcare is essential for strong, resilient communities,” said Matthew McHatten, president & CEO of MMG Insurance. “By supporting the Northern Light Dialysis Center in Presque Isle, MMG is helping ensure that patients across The County can continue receiving dialysis care they need, close to home.”
This contribution reflects MMG Insurance’s longstanding commitment to the well-being of Maine communities and its belief that geographic location should never be a barrier to lifesaving medical care.
“MMG Insurance has been a longtime supporter of AR Gould Hospital. In fact, they helped support the purchase of our existing dialysis machines more than a decade ago,” says Jay Reynolds, MD, president of AR Gould Hospital. “We’re grateful for this support that allows us to provide the very best care for The County.”
